The cast of ‘Shrinking’ share the defining moments of their characters in Season 1 and reveal who made the best Harrison Ford impression

Scenario

A grieving therapist begins telling his clients exactly what he thinks, ignoring his training and ethics, making huge changes in people’s lives—including his own. When Brett Goldstein, Jason Segel, and Bill Lawrence were asked how they landed Harrison Ford for the show, Segel said that Goldstein originally wanted a “Harrison Ford type” and was going to audition people who were similar to Ford.

Eventually, Goldstein talked to Ford and convinced him to take the part

Segel told Goldstein that they had to at least take it to Ford first, thinking he would immediately reject it, but at least other people would hear that Harrison Ford had been offered the project and that other big-name actors were interested. Goldstein still doesn’t understand what he did to convince him, but he was excited nonetheless.

Partly because I found there to be something realistically based on a therapist who needs therapy and wants to reach out to his patients to unexpectedly overcome his own issues. I also respect the way it’s presented – he’s not doing anything that other therapists should be doing, and it’s pretty clear.

The show isn’t for everyone

It hasn’t come across in silly situations in other shows like Loot, but the show is still in its early stages and I’ll keep watching. That being said, I like the depth of the characters, and they don’t come across as caricatures; these are people I want to get to know.
